FLOOD RESPONSE & RESILIENCE

Hi everyone,
We wanted to provide a brief update on the flooding that occurred last week in the Kingdom.
First, thank you to those who signed up to volunteer, got out in the heat to knock on doors and check on neighbors, and who donated a variety of essential skills, tools, and resources. We show up for one another time and again.
NEKO was on the ground in 5 impacted towns, and after going door-to-door and talking with fire chiefs and emergency management directors, we’re happy to report that the vast majority of people and homes are dry.
For the individuals and families who did suffer damages, we’re referring them to NEKO for muck and gut/mold remediation, and to kuRRve for long-term recovery and rebuilds.

Of the homes that were impacted, the Fix home was severely damaged and a friend of the family has set up a Go Fund Me page for support: https://gofund.me/0a6e4de4
J. P. Sicard in Barton has offered free fill materials from any of their quarries to support homes. Call 802-525-9506 ext 104, or 802-793-2151.
We’re still in flood season and will be paying attention to the weather and staying in touch. It’s possible we will organize a muck and gut crew on Friday and/or Saturday to support 1-3 homes. Sign up to join our volunteer network and check your inbox for updates.
We will be holding all donations we’ve received for future response efforts. In the chance we have no other floods this year, we will funnel donations into stocking supply hubs with response equipment.
In the meantime, we’re continuing to plan to build resilience in the face of future disasters.

LONG-TERM RESILIENCY PLANNING
We’re going on tour to bolster community-led disaster planning so we all have the tools, skills, and organization needed to respond to future disasters. Our goal is to visit 15 towns in the Kingdom and raise $50,000 to print the Hub Toolkit and resource our resilience hub network with new locations and tools like shovels, generators, and dehumidifiers.
